You won't get in to medical school with a low gpa. It's probably good though. People don't want their lives to be trusted to an underachiever.

I am inferring that your GPA and MCAT scores were NOT low, so you don't know how you would answer a question about how you would justify your low GPA and MCAT scores if you had them. If so, then you should say that IF you had low scores, it would have to have resulted from some interference in your life that kept you from doing your best.

Well, what is your reason? Be honest. If you did poorly freshman year, it was probably because you didn't have the study skills and time management you should have learned in high school. If you didn't improve, this reasoning probably won't work. If you did poorly one semester in college, which heavily affected your GPA, explain this. Be honest. They would rather have had you learn from your mistakes than catch you in a lie. GPA is extremely important in the med school application. Even if you have a high MCAT score, indicating that you understand the material, a low GPA means you didn't put the effort into your classes. You are expected to take at least another 4 years worth of classes, your lack of effort is not going to appeal to the committee. If you have a low MCAT and a low GPA, it means you don't grasp the material, and you may be better off taking the GRE and trying to get a masters.

Is the prompt about the theoretical situation of having a low GPA? Or do you actually have a low GPA and are hoping to get in anyway? If it's the first scenario, you can talk about how previous medical experience is a strong indication of whether or not the student will become a good doctor. Also, if there has been improvement in grades, that shows the student learned how to study, but their previous grades brought down their GPA. If the student has a high premed GPA, but low GPA in their other classes, they are capable of understanding the science they will need for medical school. If it's the second case, then look for post-bacc programs.

My first reaction is why would they ask you that? But I would say that the only answer for a med school candidate would be that it is not justifiable! You could embellish that by giving examples of what you think some people might CONSIDER to be good reasons for it (stuff going on in personal life, bad at writing essays, unfair teachers, etc), but that you personally don't think that anything less than an excellent performance is truly justifiable. This just might be what they're looking for. The question is probably meant to weed out those who might come up with excuses as to why they're not working their asses off 20 hours a day while they're in med school, which is, of course, what it takes to be successful.

Talk about how your low gpa does not reflect what you learned. Say that you learn from your mistakes and you probably are more knowledgable then someone who has a 4.0 and have long forgotten the material. You should also explain that you dont take tests well and your more of a hands on, visual, or book person.

I agree with Early Cuyler's point of view. If you didn't make the grades in undergrad school and you scored low on the MCAT test, what makes you think that anyone would want you as their doctor? If it were easy everyone would be doing it. So, it's hard. Which means only highly intelligent and talented people like myself could apply. But, in my case, I would rather be in show biz.

You could write an epic but reality is you will not be accepted. Due to overcrowding Pre Med Students with a GPA of 4. are denied.
