Should I become a medical researcher?

What education is required to become a medical researcher?

  • If i want to research say, diseases and vaccines, do i have to go through medical school? What other graduate and post-graduate schooling is needed?

  • Answer:

You don't have to go to medical school unless you want to treat patients in addition to doing research. You'll need a PhD to do research - that's 8-12 years of college - 4 for the bachelors, 2-3 for the masters, and 2-6 more for the PhD.

You wouldn't need an MD. You can get a PhD instead and work in a hospital or clinical setting.
