What's the difference between a finance major and an accounting major?

What is the difference between finance and accounting?

  • what is the difference between finance and accounting? Why is accounting important for financial analysis? how sport business accounting is similar and different from that of other businesses.

  • Answer:

Without accounting there is no finance. Finance involves analysis of reports and data that is produced by accountants. Accounting is a much more technical and specialized skill than finance. There is no bullspit involved - it's either right or wrong. Finance has its formulas and ratios but there is much more latitude in interpretation of these results. It allows much more creative and "outside the box" thinking. From what I am told, sports accounting has a few quirky things about it, like amortizing franchise costs, accounting for player contracts and the like, but it's pretty much like any other commercial accounting.
