Do you have to attend college before a university?

Which college/university should i attend?

  • I have been accepted into Cal State Long Beach, University of California Irvine, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and University of Wisconsin-Madison along with being wait-listed at UC Davis. I am a California resident and was wondering which one you think is best. It would be nice to get different rankings on stuf such as college prestige, college sports teams, surrounding area, social scene, maybe even how hard the classes are and other things along with your overall opinion. Thank you!

  • Answer:

Surprisingly, the two California universities may be best. UM-Twin Cities and UW-Madison are two huge impersonal schools where the life of the mind is not highly valued. Of UW-Madison, one professor says [ISI]: "It would be wrong to say that a majority of students demonstrate true intellectual curiosity. But a large percentage does." One teacher says he teaches a course that often touches upon the writings of Plato and Karl Marx—two authors most of his students have never read before. "This is just basic literacy, but my students don't have any reference," he says. "We've created a college environment that deemphasizes academics for socialization and being good citizens; very little here is related to disciplined learning." At both Midwestern Schools, core/breadth course requirements are very weak, and students can coast to a B.A. degree while learning not much of significance. ACTA rates both schools a mediocre "C" for "comprehensive general education." Both schools offer Honors-type programs that are said to be very good. Both schools are politicized — tilting strongly left. At both schools, professors use "enthnic stdies" and related course requirements to "foist a multiculturalist (that is, anti-Christian, anti-Western) ethos upon impressionable freshmen." For this reason, both schools get a Yellow Light ("Caution") from the ISI Institute.
