Can I transfer to a university half way through my first year at a community college?
-
I really don't think I can stand to stay at the local community college the whole year. I was wondering if I could transfer to a 4 year university half way through/ spring semester? Like go back when the classes change? Or is that not possible? When would I need to apply for the spring semester if this is possible? Thanks!

Answer:
No. Transferring is for college students that have graduated from high school already and are applying after they have completed at least 60 units. You aren't considered a transfer student because you are still in high school. Universities don't have this "high school student taking a college class" thing. Edit: Unless, you mean that you are a senior right now, about to graduate high school and starting community college in the fall. In that case, you would be considered a transfer, only if you have completed the minimum number of units to apply. However, the chances of a student that just does the minmum (and also sends the SAT or ACT, high school transcripts) is still very small. Universities strongly prefer those applicants that have completed at least 60 units on the semester scale (which is about 90 units on the quarter system) required classes for the chosen major and still have GOOD grades.

Most universities if not all require you to transfer with 60 credit hours, if you do not have that many, than you would have to submit test scores like ACT and SAT, High School Transcript. You would have a better chance of getting in for Summer right now. Edit: Ok So I'm a senior too, and I happen to know a lot of info on this stuff. So you can take up to 18 credit hours at a time w/o special permission, 21 w/ permission. Like I said, you need 60 credit hours to transfer to a university w/o needing your Test scores. Thats an AA degree, and typically takes 2 years if you take 12 credit hours a semester. Also though, you can take Clep tests to get out of taking the actual class, Those are helpful to get the credits. Take Online Classes, They aren't bad, and it's the only way I'm gonna get through finishing my AA!

It depends on the college that you want to transfer to. Most large 4 year universities require that you have completed a year of college(30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours). This varies from school to school though. I you know a school that you want to transfer to you can usually find a transfer requirements page on their website. The deadline for spring applications for transfer students is usually in the first of october, but the exact date varies from school to school.
