Is it possible to go from Paramedic to Doctor?

  • I want to be a Paramedic, but I was thinking if I am really good at it I might want to go for being a Doctor. Is this possible? Or do you only have one chance at that when you start college?

    Unless you have had some of the sciences that are required for admission to med school, you'd need to go back and get those. You don't necessarily "only have one chance", but med school admission is very competitive and they sometimes are hesitant to admit an "older" student because the return on investment won't be as great down the line. They need to make differentiations among applicants and that can be one of the criteria they use. If you haven't completed college, that would be the place to start. But you'd need real dedication and lots of hard work - all prospective med students need that. Good luck.

You can pretty much be whatever you want, but in order to go to medical school, you have to complete the pre-requisites. Usually the pre-requisits are: General Biology I and II General Chemistry I and II Organic Chemistry I and II Microbiology Molecular and Cellular Biology Genetics Physics I and II Statistics Calculus I and II. and perhaps some classes like Anatomy and Physiology. I don't know which classes you have taken so far since you are a paramedic, but you have to search for the pre-requisites of the medical school you want to go to and complete the courses needed. Then you'll take your MCATs and see if you get accepted.

I know you can go from a paramedic to a RN. the only way to become a doctor is if you have a bachlors degree in anything but it helps if it is biology or somthing medical like a BSN (Nursing)
