Why do some internships require college credit?

Are their ANY internships that does NOT require you to be in college/university?

  • Answer:

Yes, but they are hard to find. The federal government has been enforcing the minimum wage law which requires the employer to pay the federal minimum wage unless the internship is being done for college credit. So there are virtually no more "volunteer" internships for non-students as employers do not want to pay the interns and can find enough students who will work for academic credit rather than money.
