What career opportunities would an international relations degree give me?

I don't know what I want to get my degree in?

  • Hello! So I'm 16 and I really need to start looking at what I want to go to University for and I was wondering if any of you could give me some ideas. I'm really into making a difference and traveling the world, but a degree in something like International Relations doesn't hold many job opportunities. I don't want to be sitting at a desk for the rest of my life. I'm good at World Issues, Sociology, Math, Chemistry, Physics, Data Management, and kind of English. Could I just have some ideas that would lead to a promising career path? Thank you so much! I hope you all have a great day!

  • Answer:

Have you considered a degree in Education? This is something you can build on by maybe getting your Masters or PhD. You could try for a job in International Relations or Sociology, but if you can't find one, you could at least get a job teaching those subjects. This would allow you to always be involved in that field through education. Many professors have ongoing research in their field and publish articles and books on their subject that government officials (hopefully) can use as a tool to help them make decisions. Whatever you choose just make sure it is something you enjoy and if you don't know what that is specifically, choose a degree that is flexible - meaning, it can help you in more than one career choice.
