Is Information Technology (IT) a good field to major in?

Is it worth getting into the Information Technology field?

• I"m trying to decide what to do with my life. I've been thinking about getting a degree in Information Technology and I would eventually like to own my own home business or consulting firm. I have a few ideas of what exactly in the IT field I would like to do, but I have people telling me the degree is not even worth it nowadays and its hard to find a job in that field..I would like to know if it would be worth my time and what specialty in IT pays the most ex. Information Assurance, web development, etc....Thanks!

  There are 2 aspects to a choosing a career: whether you like it or not(i mean you have to be REALLY passionate about it,not just a casual liking),and secondly,whether it pays or not to get into this field. As far as i know,in IT,a lot depends on the market's demands...the value of a job in the IT sector fluctuates depending on the market's requirements...it may be a very hot field one year,and it might not be that much in demand the next. Also,software/web development are specialties which pay a lot in an IT job.
