Is biology a good major to become a forensic scientist?

How many years of college do i need to become a scientist in molecular biology?

  • i was wondering if a bachellors degree was enough to get a good job if any one could list any jobs and the corresponding degree i'll deeply appreciate it, thanks 4 taking ur time ;)

  • Answer:

To become a Scientist you need to have a PhD.In the states this takes 5 years and in Europe 3 years. To qualify for a PhD in Europe, you need a good Bachelors degree i.e 1st / 2-1 Do a google search for EMBL.They run a top notch PhD programme in Molecular Biology on a par with Harvard.Althhough based in Germany, it's English speaking. It's world renound for it's research facilities and scientists...

certainly the bachelors degree is enough to get you a lab technician or lab-technician's assistant job. If you want a University Professorship, the bachellor's degree is not enough, of course.

My brother did in 4 years at UC Davis in California. Graduated with a BS. Working a pretty good job now.

A bachellors degree will get your foot in the door as an understudy but you will need to pursue a post grad master or doctorate to advance. A 4 year degree is entry level in the science field.

You can get a job with a BS degree. Whether the job is "good" depends on your preferences. Your career will not advance, beyond lab technician without a PhD, though.

No you need a Ph.D., a couple years in a low-pay post doc position, and years of lab experience. I got a job after a few months out of college as a biologist in a molecular biology lab, and the P.I. treated me like a tech. Washed dishes & Western blots all day. I was real depressed. Then he said I didn't have enough drive b/c I wasn't going to grad school - when I couldn't afford it and didn't have time for it b/c of the hours he had me work. So now I'm in a real tech position, washing lab dishes & running Western blots all day, but for real tech pay. $11/hr. Meh. I'll stop. I'm depressing myself.
