According to the UCLA website, the admission rate for graduate program in mechanical engineering is 46%! http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/asis/progprofile/result.asp?selectmajor=0330&searchDeptButton=Display+Report Even higher is aerospace engineering, 58%! http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/asis/progprofile/result.asp?selectmajor=0279&searchDeptButton=Display+Report Am I reading this right? Why is it so high?

Because most of the applicants are very highly qualified. If a student knows he/she is not going to get in, why waste the application fee?
