MECEP question about SAT scores and college degree?
-
Sorry if the question was worded weirdly, I am currently in college and I almost have my AS degree in college, I wanted to continue, but it's becoming to pricey and there is not an ROTC here so I have been thinking long and hard about enlisting into the Marines with my AS degree and become a lance Corporal, then ranking up to a Corporal and then try and get into the MECEP program to become an officer, if I choose I want to make military a career, I guess my question is does the MECEP requirements require you to have a certain SAT score or will they go off of my college scores? Do I need to retake sat

Answer:
A college student can re take the Sat and/or Act to achieve qualifying scores. An Asvab Afqt of 74+ is also qualifying. The highest advanced enlisted rank the Marines will award is E-2, PFC. http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/marinepromotions/a/marineprom.htm The selection rate is very low for E-3's and E-4's. 62 of 194 E-5's, 24 of 61 E-6's and 5 of 7 E-7's were selected in FY 10. It generally has to be started the fall of sophomore year. Speak to an OSO regarding the PLC, the Marines prime officer commissioning program for college students. The Plc offers limited financial benefits after completing the first six week Ocs course Plc Juniors, Mctap(Marine Corps Tuition Assistance Program) and McFap(Marine Corps Financial Assistance Program.) http://web.archive.org/web/20090515122648/http://dcmarineofficer.com/platoonleadersclass.html Might want to speak to an OSO: http://openbah.com/marine-ocs-articles/marine-oso-city-list All Marine Officer commissioning programs require a 1st class Marine PFT, 225 minimum to apply. Most Oso will not forward an application to a selection board with a PFT less than 240. A 280 is required to commission as a Marine Officer and considered competitive for Occ and the Nrotc Marine Option Scholarship. Good Luck!
