Is it true that when your applying to colleges, colleges look you up on the internet?

And check your Myspace page and Facebook or whatever. I heard this and i want to know if its true.

Answer:
Yes! This has been in the news, was discussed in my undergraduate sociology class, and I was even told my the admission office to bring this up when going to high schools as part of their college fairs. Not only do they check before admitting you, residential life staff can check up on it too. In fact, my cousin posted a few pics of herself drinking in her dorm and later her RA wrote her up; a week later she was told to leave the dorms! Employers are notorious for checking social networking sites. It shouldn't matter what you do in your spare time right? Well, it does to employers. If you are caught drinking heavily, drugging, online during work hours, etc. You could be fired, and no, making your profile private doesn't protect you because if they are friends with your "mutual" friend and that person posts pictures of you, they can see them. Plus, there are simple ways to get past the privacy issues of Facebook and Myspace.

Some of them do. They can, because it's public. Jobs can do this too. You can always set your profiles to private and they can't see anything, but anything made pubic is free game. Most of them don't, they have too many people to look through and so much other work to do. But it is possible.

Yes it's true. Thats why you don't post yourself doing stupid thinks like drinking, wild parties, or drugs on facebook. Employers to jobs do it too.

I've heard that some do. In fact I remember hearing about a story that some guy didn't get a job because of what he had posted on his facebook profile. So, be careful. Or set both profiles to private lol.

yes, sometimes. Employers also do it too before they decide wether or not to hire you sometimes.

no they don't have time they have anywhere from 5,000-20,000 applicants and mostly they spend their time looking at your transcript

I don't think most do, if any do. I think they mostly say they do in order to scare you. Still, you should not have anything illegal on your page. Like pictures of you doing drugs. And if you're underage, I'd private all your pictures of you drinking. Do not have anything scandalous on your page for the next couple of months, as you apply to different colleges.
