Pharmacy Technician to Pharmacist

  • Hi, I am interested in changing careers from being an auto mechanic (which really, really sucks!) to starting as a pharmacy technician, and then going to school working towards a PharmD degree. Any pharmacists out there that have any pros and cons to talk about for the field?

    Why start as a pharmacy tech? None of your classes will transfer or apply for pharmacy school, you basically waste two years of education for nothing, and pharm techs make even less than mechanics. Enroll directly to the Pharm D 2+4 program. Which consists of 2 years of pharmacy prerequisite courses of 1 year biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, English, half year of calculus, statistics, microbiology, and physiology. After you complete those classes, take the PCAT, then apply for PharmD.
