Which university is better, Michigan State or University of Oregon?
-
I got accepted into Michigan State and University of Oregon and I'm going to study business. Now I live in Eugene, OR and I don't really want to move because of my boyfriend. Family doesn't really matter because they don't live in the U.S. so they said it's up to me to decide. Michigan is really cold and I don't know anyone there or how it's like. I applied there because the university ranking is really good and I had a chance of getting in. Now, I have to decide where to go. Also, after my sophomore year I'll have to apply to the business school anyways. So, I was thinking if I should stay at U of Oregon then later transfer to California or Washington later because I really don't want to move that far. Then the problem comes to the tution for the two universities are the same and Michigan State seems to be better in terms of ranking and it's like I'm throwing my opportunity away if I go to University of Oregon. Any advices?

Answer:
Just because a school is better in ranking doesn't necessarily mean you'll like it. Just think to yourself which University will less complicate your life. School will be complicated enough for you.

Well I live in Michigan and I am a HUGE Michigan State fan. Michigan State is an excellent college. I never went there but had family, friends, and boyfriends go there, all for different things and everyone of them was very happy with the programs that Michigan State had to offer. It says you are going into business, my cousin just graduated from Michigan State in business, she already has a great job in Atlanta. I understand you don't want to leave your boyfriend but I am just letting you know the upside to MSU. I hope this helps

I received my BS from WSU and came to OSU for graduate school. I also considered Michigan state. I did some TA'ing at OSU and wasn't impressed with OSU at all. The standard of instruction is not nearly as professional as that I experienced at WSU. Also all of the student services were way below the standard of those at WSU. In general I believe Michigan state is more highly rated, but do keep in mind that you need to compare the OSU business department with the MSU business department. Good luck
