How long is an rn to bsn program?

Accepted into an $$$ 15 month Accelerated BSN program & got in at a much cheaper 2y school for an RN program?

  • What should I do! I am so confused. The Accelerated BSN is going to be a very expensive and demanding 15 months, but worth it in the end. The RN community college degree is 2 nights and every other weekend and is way less money, but more time for a smaller degree. I have 2 kids and money is tight. The CC makes more sense, but something keeps drawing me towards the BSN degree at the private school. Will this choice greatly affect my future? Please any opinions will help!

  • Answer:

OK, first of all, an "RN" is NOT a college degree. One becomes a registered nurse by passing an exam after completing a certain course of college courses. I am sure the community college degree is some kind of associates degree. Second of all, no, I don't think it matters really in the final analysis. RNs are in such high demand that it really doesn't matter if you went to a fancy place. Beggars (i.e., hospitals that employ nurses) cannot be choosers. My vote is to go for the community college. I myself got my first degree at a community college, and I now have a Dr. next to my name from one of the nation's best schools. So, don't listen to people who say you can't go to a community college. You make the most of your opportunity wherever you are, and you'll be fine, especially in the nursing field.
