Help with a PreMed major?

Can someone help me with my premed question? This one might be hard.?

  • Alright so I have to say I'm not the best student right now. I say right now because I've improved a lot because I love science. I have a 3.4 gpa and I'm in my second semester of college. I'm pretty poor in mathematics though although I've been working about 6 hours a day to get back up to speed. This is my biggest hurdle though. If I can get to the point where I can excel at this I feel I can do anything. I'm very behind, 5/6th grade level behind, but like I said improving quickly. Do I have a chance of getting into med school if I keep getting A's in college or should I look to do something else in the sciences because of my lack of natural talent in math. Do you know a doctor that had similar troubles? Are you a doctor? If so, could you give me specific tips? Are you in the same position? Please share so I can figure this out. Thanks.

  • Answer:

Have you ever been evaluated to see if you have dyscalculia? If not, I would encourage you to do so. There might be therapies that can help you become better at math, they way therapies for dyslexia help students to read. The problem is that pre-med science courses may require a great deal of math, possibly a the level of trigonometry or calculus.
