Is it stupid to get a bachelors degree in liberal arts then go to nursing school?
-
Im going to a community college right now but i want to transfer to a university next year. Because im a transfer student i cant get into their nursing program. I really want to go to this school and only this school! Should i just go and study liberal arts and take basic classes that would transfer over to a nursing program after after four years? Or should i just give up my dream of going to this school and go to a school with a nursing program i could get into? Basically i don't want to be wasting time and money studying for four years just to get the experience if it does not lead to anything.

My advice: Get your associates degree and focus on the classes that will transfer to the college that you want to go to. Then, it will just take a term or two to get the classes out of the way that will allow you to get into the nursing program. It shouldn't take you four years. If in doubt, make an appointment with a counselor at the University and ask. It really doesn't make sense that it would take a bachelors degree to get into a nursing program..... unless of course the program is a graduate program. And, if this were the case, you would be transferring from your community college as a junior. It will only take 2 years to get your bachelors. This is the route I took. Associates degrees will always save you money on a bachelor's degree.

It's stupid to get a degree you won't use. See if you can apply as a freshman nursing student, or find another school.
I think you just answered your own question with that last sentence. Right?

No, it's not stupid. People change their ideas about what they want to do all the time. If it's more important to you that you go to this specific school, then do it. But if you'd rather be a nurse and do something with your life that you like, then go to nursing school. You can always change your mind later if you decide you want to do something else, and hey!, you never know what you might end up doing!

There are very very very few fields in which a bachelors degree in liberal arts will help you. Go to nursing school, people are only getting older and sicker. You have job security in a field that is growing. Go with that

It is not a bad thing, because of that education, you will have more opportunities and knowledge that could help you later in life, you might want to do something other than nursing in the future. Think about it. Good luck!
