How do I get into UNC Chapel Hill?

Can I get into UNC Chapel Hill?

  • I am a High School Sophomore in a North Carolina high school (so I am in state). My current GPA is a 4.25, but I have done the calculations and if I get A's in all my classes next year I will have around a 4.6 (I regret slacking off a little this year and my freshman year, but have only recieved 4 B's and am taking all honors classes and 4 AP classes next year.) I am in the Key Club, Treasurer of SADD Club, Non-fiction editor of our school literary magazine, captain of my homeroom, and sophomore class representative for our school's business alliance. I am in a community service club outside of school and volunteer frequently at the local hospital. My mom, dad, and my sister went to UNC Chapel Hill and my mom gives a lot of money annually to the nursing program (if that counts any). I know that my essays will be above average; I have not yet taken my SATs but am hessitant to say I will score above average. I plan to apply early admission senior year. can i get into unc chapel hill?

  • Answer:

No. You will go to East Carolina and party for the next six years before dropping out to manage a strip club. But seriously, don't you think your parents and councilors are better judges of that than we are. From the sound of things you'll be alright. Besides, you can do what a friend of mine did and declare an unpopular major(one that there isn't a lot of demand for) and change your major once you have established yourself.(He did this at UNC!)

You most likely match all of their criterion. You should be accepted no doubt, unless you do poor on the SAT.

I am a current Junior at UNC. Its hard but its fun and it sounds as if you are a perfect candidate. I actually have the same credentials but I was just a senior in high school. You still have a lot of time to add to it. Keep doing well as you are and you will definitely get in. Just remember that its not all about numbers though. You have to be well rounded, as it seems you are, and you need to have a great essay and awesome references. So make nice with your teachers now, try to take one of them a few times to make them more creditable. All I can say from now is keep doing good and I hope to see you at "The Hill." (PS.: I also use to work for the Carolina Annual Fund [we call and ask for donations from the alumni], the fact that your parents contribute means nothing [unless they are donating enough to get a building named after them]. I know, I have spoken to many angry parents.)
