How do I get a job in Human Resources?

Can I get a job working in Human Resources?

  • I have two Human Resources Internships.... One in 2003 and one in 2004. None RECENT THOUGH. I am about to graduate with a minor in Human Resources and Society. Will employers still look to hire someone who doesn't have "recent" internship experience before they graduate from college? Am I qualifiable for a Human Resources Generalist position?

  • Answer:

The fact that you have two HR internships under your belt is very impressive to many HR managers looking for HR employees. I just graduated with my degree in HR Management and had an internship. The internship was in labor relations. I interviewed for an HR job at a company that wasn't unionized, but they hired me anyway, and were still impressed that I'd had an HR internship at all. I have to say though, HR jobs are often very hard to come by. You'll have to start at the very bottom with your minimal experience. I got a job as an assistant and I don't make much money at all... but I'm just happy to have gotten the job in my field. You'll have to work your way up. You're probably not qualified to be a generalist. Generalists often do the same amount of work as managers. Try small... get in the door, and work your way up.
