Some good colleges to look into?

What exactly do good colleges look for?

  • I am in 10th grade and am beginning to wonder what exactly I have to do to get into a good college. I have a 4.0 GPA, but what else do colleges look for?

  • Answer:

The top 4 factors of admission: -Academic GPA -SAT/ACT Test Scores -Extracurricular activities -Rigor of Coursework You want to do really good on all of those: -Getting a 4.0 is great but if you get that GPA only taking regular classes, you're going to look bad by not challenging yourself. -Getting great SAT/ACT scores but low GPA looks bad because it shows you're intelligent but not hardworking. -Having alot of extra curriculars may also look bad, you want to have great roles and positions rather than just participation in them. -Not having any extra curriculars show that you probably spend all day watching tv or chillin with friends. There are also 5 conditions that make you stand out without having to do anything: -Minority -Alumni relations -First Generation -Level of interest -Region/State residency But there are also other conditions that you can work for: -Volunteer Work -Actual Work/Job -Personal Character -Awards -Application Essay Of the Top Factors, the most important In my opinion is challenging yourself. Taking the toughest classes out there really make boosts your chances for all the great schools.

To start off, keeping the high GPA will serve you well. Good colleges are also looking for good scores on either the SAT or the ACT (Ivies, if you're applying to them, will like 680+ in each section). In addition to good grades and good standardized test scores, you'll need to have good extracurriculars as well. This includes showing high involvement in school clubs. Joining a sport definitely helps because that takes a lot of commitment.

do some community service, join sports if you can, clubs at school.

Volunteering, clubs, maybe sports if that's your cup of tea... but most of them look for PASSION. If you like painting, be passionate about it. Teach other kids how to paint, join the art club, etc. Become passionate about something. There's probably a club somewhere that you could join, and you could volunteer using your talents. It's all about passion. :)

Sunshine

Community involvement, good grades, references.
