What is a day in the life of a social worker like?

  • I am going to go to college next year but I cannot decide whether I want to major in Social Work or Elementary Education. I am pretty sure I want to work with kids. Can anyone tell me what it is like to be a social worker?

    I'm a social worker. The typical day depends on your job and I am an administrator. But a social workers job includes talking with people in need and finding ways to meet those needs. You often travel to do so. Being a social worker is a lot more fun and less structure than teaching would be, plus---No Homework! You'll love it and the best thing about majoring in social work is that you can transition. WIth an elementary ed degree, there's little else you can do but teach. With social work, you can choose what you want to do, be it therapy or administration. (Another consideration is that the Masters for social work is one of the shortest their is if you have a Bachelor's in it. 44 hours or a year and a half.) Good luck!
