Is syracuse university?

Should I go to University of Vermont or Syracuse University?

  • Im currently a freshman at Syracuse University and I am not making very many friends. I am very outgoing and really easy to get along with but everyone here loves techno and is a rich kid from NJ. Not me. I am a regular kid from rochester, NY, I like reggae, DMB, skiing, chill people, and some recreational drugs. Im a hippie at heart but a normal kid on the outside. I get along with a lot of people here, but none have the same interests. SO SHOULD I STAY AND WAIT IT OUT OR SHOULD I LEAVE AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER?

  • Answer:

It can take a bit of time to get adjusted to college! Check out the campus activities -- like the student groups and organizations. Find something that interests you! You will get to know plenty of like-minded people and make new friends. Do you live in a dorm? Get to know the people around you -- everyone has to eat, why not ask your dorm roommate or the person next door to you if they want to head to lunch with you? Create study groups in some of your more difficult classes. It's a good way to get to know your classmates and boost your grade! Switching colleges won't magically help your situation. You will have to get used to a new place all over again -- you chose Syracuse for a reason. Give it a chance. If you are still miserable at the end of the year, you can of course transfer, but you may lose a few credits in the process. Always make sure to visit a campus before you commit to it!

Join some clubs that focus on your interests. Syracuse has *got* to have a ski club - join. Join other groups that focus on your interests, and see if you form friendships via those groups. Give it a term. See how you feel at the end of the term. If at that point you see it's not a fit, then apply to transfer elsewhere for fall. But until then, work *hard* to try to make Syracuse work. If you're really a bit granola on the inside, if you do decide to transfer, you may really want to give a serious look to the following schools in your area: UVM, which you mentioned; Hampshire, Bennington, Marlboro College, Emerson, Vassar, SUNY Purchase, Skidmore, Ithaca, Green Mountain College, UMass Amherst, and Bard.
