Is it cheaper to live on college campus or to get an apartment?

Answer:
If you can get a room mate or two, I think an apartment might be cheaper. It all depends on the school, the distance between the school and the apartment, the population of the city, and how many reliable room mates you can find.

Depends where you are, what time period you're planning on being there (over the summer or not) and how you live and all sorts of things. For me it was about the same during the school year, but once it came to summer an apartment was way cheaper. So I lived off campus my final year to save some money and get the experience of living on my own.

it depends. your tuition includes the cost of living so the dorms on college campuses should already be included in your tuition. if the apartment is also part of the housing, then it shouldn't cost any differently. if you're thinking of renting an apartment that isn't included in the tuition, then you prob should find other ppl to share the bill.

You can do it cheaper in an apartment, but you usually have to share the apartment with other people, which brings its own problems (like when the roommates don't pay their share of the electric bill or won't turn their stereo off at night). There are transportation problems, apartments close to campus are very expensive. You might have to take the bus which adds time and possibly cost. Or carpool. You have to be able to shop and cook which also takes more time than just eating with a meal ticket. For freshman and sophomores i recommend the dorms because it's close, structured, safe, organized and easier. Juniors and Seniors are ready for the challenges of an apartment.

Living on campus was a lot cheaper for me, but the life was not very good. The only cheaper housing on campus was in the dorm where you had no privacy and shared a bathroom with 20 other people. I really appreciate the stove that I have in my apartment. It is worhth the extra cost to live away from the campus restrictions.

I depends on the college, I went to UConn where is did seem cheaperto rent, also there are less restrictions on what you can do. But the dorms may be more fun, this is where you meet most people.

If you want to get by real cheap, pitch a tent near the student union building!

Campus, especially if your family doesn't make "much."
