What's the Process of College Application?

What is the college application process like?

  • I won't be applying for about another year or so, but I just want a heads up as to what the college application process is like. Do you have any tips for applying?

  • Answer:

my best advice is to maintain as high grades as you can. When your applying for college its the same for when your applying to a high school. It takes a few months for a response so I would suggest dont put all your eggs into one basket, take an idea of what you maybe interested in unless you already know what career you want and take a lot of things into consideration, you really should start looking now the more prepared you the better it is calculate if you want to be out of state, how will you survive for money to eat to get your books, clothes etc, or if your going to somewhere close by then you still have to consider books which are very expensive the amount of time you will need for a lot of things so when your applying think ahead, its what I did when I was high school. But in the meantime while you plan it out and think carefully keep those grades up and if they are not high move them up, it looks very impressive. look into scholarships, there are a lot out there that will cover a high school graduate and do as many of them as you can. well that's all I got

My suggestion is to start early. For most universities, the earlier they receive your application, the better chance you have. Normally, you need to write a statement of purpose (why you want to go to this university and study this major, etc). It should be between 1 and 2 pages. Then most universities require SAT score. Some universities will say on the website what exactly they are looking for. After that you need letters of recommendation. Depending on each university, you may need 2 or 3 letters. I suggest that you start looking for people to write these letters for you now. From my previous experience, I've once missed the deadline because my referee submitted the letter too late. So do that as early as possible. Once you've submitted everything, they will give you a notify that your application is completed. They will also let you know when they will make the decision. I would say if you want to apply for Fall 2010, start preparing and begin your application in October 2009. You should take SAT earlier than that, though.

here is ME Ive studied all over my country and its a pain in the *** it really depends on how the college is organized. for real this is the 411. if the school or college is well organized it wont be such a hassle cuzz they will ask for all you're documents up front and then do all the exams and whatnot, if its not well organized you will basically go do the exams and will be chased through the semester for papers and they will even tell you like a day before class "You can be in the class cuzz you don't have you're paper work done" and that's not nice for any start of a college year. tip. do the paper work and transfer script about 2 months ahead and you wont have any problems, or hassles. remember: very important credits, certificate, for school and high school. any papers that certify you're extra curr´s you're birth certificates and everything else will be asked for by the college that's kind of it...... :) good luck and study hard

If you are asked to write an essay, don't send in an essay comprised of simply what you think the college/university WANTS to hear. The essays are typically aimed towards trying to get to know you, so make sure you stay truthful towards yourself. Also, make sure that you stay involved in the years before your application. Make sure to continue to strive to be and do the best you can. It's not impressive if an applicant began to slack before applying. Also, it is the extent to which you are engaged in activities that count much more so than the number of activities you are engaged in. Finally, always be optimistic when filling out and writing for applications. It tends to show through if you were happy when you write. Hope this helps and you get into the college/university of your dreams! It worked for me!

Yep, do it early!!! You will have to write essays, write down what you have done 9th grade-12th grade. Any awards, accomplishments, groups you were involved in, volunteer work. You can start making a list now. I would start taking the SAT and ACT practice tests at this point. You can buy a book online. My score raised a lot by practicing.

There are no tips. Your entry is based on grades and SAT's Just apply to the schools you like and then apply to extra ones unless you dont get one you like.
