How To Wholesale Your Books?

How come no students will buy my books at school? How can I get them to?

  • I have posted signs at my school for students to buy the book and have put them in areas where most other students also post signs, or very common areas like by the cafe, library, classrooms, etc. I have even put a few (when allowed) on or by the door of the classroom it is specifically on sale for students in (example- by the biology door for that same book). I have tried going to the classroom and asking if any students wanted my book (before the teacher were there, before class started) but I never get any luck. It's like no one wants my books. I keep all of them in very good condition so I don't get why. Plus, I try to sell them really cheap. **Am I supposed to go cheaper than it already is? For instance if I tried to sell a textbook to a class that I bought for 100 but told them it's only let's say, $60, and no one buys it..then can I (that same time) make it lower and change the price and tell them like "what about 40 bucks instead?" What I'm trying to say is if I should change the prices of books when selling in classrooms if the initial price mentioned does not work?? **What else do students do to sell books? And how can I get rid of these books faster?? It's really bad since i still have books from my first year and such that I can't even sell any longer since the editions/book info has changed for future quarters at my school. I should've done the buyback at my school that time but didn't want to since they barely give you anything. Still now I regret that b/c I thought someone would buy my book by now but still no. So am just asking for any ways I can get students to buy my books? Other than what I've already listed here. If it is a method I put here, then what can I do differently to sell them?? Please do not mention Online sites!! I have wanted to try a few but the fact that they get a profit off what you make isn't really fair plus I can't choose how much I'd like to sell it for. I am considering using Amazon Trade-In program for a few of my books, so if anyone is also using or have used that then can you tell me your experiences with that please? (though this question is not required, I just mainly am asking the question above for now). Thanks for all the advice and tips!

  • Answer:

Students generally buy their texts before the semester starts, so by going to the classroom, you're trying to sell books to people that already have them. It's the same with the signs in the classrooms and library. Plus a lot of people aren't going to read a sign with a list of books in tiny print to see if one of them happens to be for a class they're taking. Chances are, if you go to a large school, only one out of a hundred students is actually going to need any of your particular books. Students who want to buy used books do so at the bookstore or online. So sell your texts back to the bookstores, or on-line. You say you won't get as much, but something is better than nothing, which is what you've got doing it your way.
