American SATS into UK A-levels?
-
I'm just wondering how English A-levels convert into US SATS? And, I have been researching into US universities and it states that you have to send all your records? What does that mean in terms of an British student? Does it mean all UK SATS/GCSE/AS and A-level scores? Or does it mean every single report you've ever had? Oh, and would it be advisable to take US SATS during A2 study, if needs be? Thankyou.

Answer:
British A levels do not convert to US SATs. The closest US equivalent to A levels are the AP exams. Most US universities will require you to take the SAT exam. You should take them before you leave college, certainly. When is up to you. You should also send your A level scores. You probably won't need to send your GCSEs or AS scores, if you've done A levels, unless you feel that one of the subjects you did at AS level, which you didn't do at A level, supports your application. But contact the US university directly and discuss what you need to send, as this varies by university - there is no universal answer. You do not need to send every report you've ever had. You also don't need to send your UK SATS. At worst, you'll be having sent your GCSEs, AS and A levels, plus perhaps a transcript from your secondary school showing what courses you took, and the grades you received in those courses.

American Universities, being American, want you to have an american qualification. On applying for a postgraduate degree at one US college i was asked to take the SATs before my placement would be considered. Because top grades in the hardest exams from a far superior education system, as well as an honours degree from one of the top universities in the world wasn't enough, apparently. I think its actually quite easy to register and take the american exams, although you have to pay, and i don't think you should find them too challenging if you have good GCSEs accross the board. Call or email the college though and discuss it with them, send them your GCSEs and A-levels and see what they say. Good luck!

Don't send UK SATS but do send the others.
