What's the life of an exchange student like?

Whats an example of the average life (class schedule) of a college student?

  • Do students really get to choose when to have their classes and how many classes to take on some day in a week? College is almost here for me and these are a few things that I have heard many people say are the advantages and opportunities of college life.

  • Answer:

Yes you get to choose your classes, but you have to meet certain general education requirements in order to graduate, as well as the minimum number of classes specific to your major. It can be difficult to find classes whose schedules don't conflict. There are also limitations on how many classes you can take per semester, this keeps students from overburdening themselves.

Yup, it's true. I made all my classes on Tues, Wed, and Thurs so I had super long weekends.

Its 2 classes a day 3 times a week, not too bad.

Yes, you get to choose your classes and days you take them. Basics are classes that you have to take no matter what your degree is like english, math, history, PE, phychology, etc. These classes, since everyone has to take them are offered MWF, or on Tues./Thurs. , you spend the same amount of time per week in class, but the MWF classes are only 50 minutes long and the T/TH classes are 1 hr and 15 mins. long. Once you've taken your basics, the closer you get to finishing your degree, the class offerings get smaller, for example an accounting class that you need for a business degree may only be offered on T/TH, either in the morning or the afternoon. You still get to choose when you take it, but it isn't offered on MWF. So, you can schedule all of your classes in the morning so you have afternoons free to study or work, or have them mid morning to late afternoon so you don't have to get up at 6-7am like you did in high school everyday. Some classes are even offered at night, one or 2 days a weeks, but day classes are better because there's stuff you'll want to do at night like join the intermural sports team (i spelled it wrong but it is basketball, rugby, volleyball for students for fun). Your first semester is feeling your way through, after that you'll know what to do.

Choose carefully. Be aware of what parts of the day you are most alert. If you would like to take early classes so that you can have most of the day off, be careful. It sounds like a good idea, but if you find it too difficult to get yourself out of bed to the point that you miss class then it's not worth it. I cannot stress how important it is to see your adviser at the beginning and end of your semesters to help you choose classes. It will help you save money (that way you'll take the classes you need) and it will save you time.

Well I am at a tech school for graphic design. I go from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. Four days a week M-Th. That is one class. And each class lasts 6 weeks. Usually I have 2 in that time. and I get my AA degree in Graphic Design in a total of less than 18 months. Some colleges let you do that. But its different for every college. Are you going to community college, University, Tech school/trade school? I cant tell you if I dont know which one you are going to.

I have 4 classes on Monday and Wednesday, 3 classes on Friday (All 3 repeat on Monday and Wednesday), I have 1 class on Tuesday and none on thursday. In college, you'll have more time in between classes but having too many days off would result in laziness and poor time management and lack of motivation.

Ironic

yeah, most colleges are pretty flexible. Some classes you can only take in the afternoon like some labs and stuff. Some classes are even four days a week like my calculus class will be in the fall but its worth 4 credit hours. most of my classes are tuesday thursday in fall cause thats how it worked out.
