What do i do if i'm undecided about what to take up in college?
-
ok so i'm going to college Aug 2010 but i don't know what to take up in college and which major is right for me. How do i go about finding what to take up in college?
-
Answer:
you have a whole year to think about it. i'm sure there are tons of other people who have no idea what they want to be yet. and i know it's not an easy thing to do, but it must be done. since college apps are coming up, you'll probably be too stressed out to think about it...or not..but if you really don't know by the end of senior year, you could always decide later after starting your college classes. usually the first two years are the basic core classes that everyone has to take. but by then you really should make a decision so that you can start taking the courses required for your major.

Don’t panic! For most people choosing a major is a process. Use the Resources at the College Take advantage of your student advisor and your college’s career center. They can give you self-assessment tools and books. They can also hook you up with important contacts in prospective departments. Self Assessment What subjects do you enjoy? What subjects interest you? What careers appeal to you? What do you like and dislike about your part-time/summer jobs? Strengths and Weaknesses What subjects come easy to you but are difficult for others? What job duties are you good at/not so good at? If you’re not good in math you probably would not want to major in actuarial sciences. Values Do you want to work for a small business or a Fortune 500 company? Do you want to work for a non-for-profit organization or the local government? How important is status, pace of work, working with others, and salary? Research Learn all you can about majors that interest you. There are many “What Can I Do With A Major In” documents provided by colleges. Google a major you’re interested in. Test Drive Sit in on a few classes. Job shadow or take an internship in a field that interests you. Remember, a major gets you started but it doesn’t define your career. Studies show most people switch careers 4-5 times in their life. Best regards!

its okay, im not exactly sure either. we are still young and shouldnt have to know what we want to be doing for the rest of our lives anyways. once you start college and get your pre-reqs out of the way you might have a greater hold on what you want to do. just think of all the stuff you are interested in and what you like to do. that will help you. don't worry, you'll figure it out in your own time! good luck to you!

Most people don't know, and many who say they do will change their major anyway. Take 4 required courses, and 1 elective that interests you. You will have an advisor, you will meet people majoring in things you've never thought about it, and you will eventually figure things out. Don't worry about it.

Well you could always go to a community college and take transferable general education classes (that you need anyways) and figure out what you want to do. Once you figure out what you want to do transfer over to a UC/CSU/State school and finish up the 2 years there and take classes for your major.

Well you still have another year to go before you really need to decide. Also, when you enroll in college you just sign up saying undecided major. Advisors and such will help you through it. Pick something you like to do. A passion. Like technology, science and math? Try engineering. There are SO many jobs out there. I'm going to college this fall and majoring in Pre-vet. :)

Don't worry about it. colleges are not going to care if you are undecided. Over 50% of college students change their major at least once. Get into college, take core classes, talk to your professors and college adviser, with time you will find what to major in.

Try to find some reputable aptitude tests in your area; good ones will evaluate your interests and strong subjects to help you choose. Also be sure to concentrate on classes related to subjects you're interested in while you're still in high school to give yourself a head start.

You don't have to declare until the end of you sophomore year. The first 2 years are all core classes you have to take no matter what your major.
