Is film school worth it?

Is Film School worth the investment?

  • This aspiring filmmaker has struggled academically but has the financial ability to support himself and buy equipment. So say NYU and USC are out of the question. Would he be better off not attending college and instead start and collaborate with projects and invest in self-education revolving around film, and have the ability to financially support himself and buy equipment. Or attend an art school which will easily cost 50k-100k. Or major in something else at a university. The question is pretty general, so just give opinions. Dropping the idea isn't an option for my question, even though of course its the logical answer!

    If you can't go to a top film school then it's not worth it. You're better off working your way up on your own.
