Is it crazy to start a new career at 30?

Is 30 something to old to start a new career or go to school?

  • Answer:

No. I'm 30 and i'm in college right now studying to be a teacher. The truth is, it's hard because you have to work to pay the bills while going to school unless you have someone who can support you. But dont let that discourage you. Remember, you are only going to get older so if you want to make a change, now is the time to do it. In 4 years, you will be 34 and either still wanting to go back to school OR starting a career that will take you through the rest of your life. To make things easier, you could check with your local community college. They can tell you about all kinds of agreements they have with 4 year colleges and about convenient night classes that will help you to go to school if you still need to work. Also, community college is cheaper which will save you a lot of $$ for the first 2 years. Also go to www.fastweb.com to see what kind of scholarships you can qualify for. You can get some based on your age, if you have kids, if you have a military background, etc. Also, register for the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. It's the paperwork you have to file to be eligible for government aid. You may not receive much at the community college level, but it could be a real lifesaver when you get to the 4 year schools.

Yes, If i were you I would just go work at Burger King the rest of your life.

No, especially for an Allied Health (Respiratory Therapy, Radiologic Technician, etc) Nursing or Computer Tech position. There are all kinds of 2 year Community College programs that can get you going pretty quickly. The important thing to remember.....you're going to be 2 years older no matter what, you might as well be older and happier too.

No way. You're never too old to start a new career. My Dad was in the military for over 20 years and started his new career when he was over 40. 10 years later he's one of the VP's at a large company and making 6 figures easy.

I sure do hope not. I'm 35 and I just started going back to school to get a medical degree. I have a year of pre-med classes to take and then 4 years of med school. ...Not to mention residency after that.
