Reading university texts is different from reading for pleasure and is demanding on the grey matter. Read the summary and coclusion of a chapter first, then look at the headings before moving on. You don't have to read every word. have a break every 40 minutes and get some exercise to keep your brain oxygenated. Good luck.

Try reading in a not to comfortable spot, like your desk, never the bed or a sofa, those are for recreation and sleep only. Make sure the work area is bright enough and not too warm. Work in intervalls and take a break every hour or so. hope this will help a little

I know what you mean, I used to get drowsy the moment I opened a book when I was at school. I think it’s psychological because you feel it’s a thing imposed on you. It helped when I turned off all lights around me except a reading lamp spotted on the book I’m reading…it also helped preventing distractions.

If you are reading, especially university books, take a break every 20 mins if you feel yourself getting tired. Go and stretch your body or have something to eat or drink.
