Where can I take an online programming aptitude test/exam?

Was I foolish for not going into actuarial science, because I thought the insurance industry was unethical?

  • When I went to university, most of the students in my admissions category went into either actuarial science or computer science (though there were other options). I didn't go into actsci because I didn't like the insurance industry (or my stereotypes of it). I thought they made money by denying people with medical conditions, ripping people off by not covering certain things, etc. Not all actuaries work in insurance, but if I majored in it I had to take courses like "life contingencies" which involve calculating mortality tables and stuff like that. Yuck, I thought. So I majored in computer science. Problem is, I was better at math than programming. In fact I suck at it. I graduated, and most CS grads can find jobs, but I lost both interest and aptitude at it. Now that I'm unemployed my future is rapidly declining. I should be programming and doing personal projects in order to have a chance of getting a job again, but I can't get myself to do it. Had I told myself back then, "f*ck ethics, do whatever's easier and makes more money", maybe my life would be completely different now. Was I an idiot for not thinking that back then?

  • Answer:

Not at all. Thats why some people don't become doctors. Their salary isnt worth the insurance they get hit over the head with.
