Is it so hard to enter Berklee College of Music?

Should I go/apply to a UC before going to a specified college (ex. Berklee College of Music)?

  • I'm kind of confused on what the normal thing to do is, or what the right thing to do is. Should I go to a UC and major in English(or something else) before I try to go to Berklee College of Music to major in music? I obviously need a career major as backup (from a UC) rather than just trying to live off playing music, but do people who attend specified colleges usually attend them right after highschool???

  • Answer:

Music schools are meant to cultivate your talent and they offer very different curricula compared to regular colleges. Most students attend music schools right out of high school because talent takes a lot of time and hard work to refine, and the sooner you start the better. If you are not considering music as a career path (or not as your primary/main career path), attending a regular college such as a UC is probably better.
