How can i apply to a community college in the USA?

What is a "community college" in the USA?

  • In the US what is a community college and what does it say about a person who attends it? Why do some people go to community colleges instead of just a normal university? Are community colleges usually for students who are not that good academically or something like that? I am not from the US so I am not too sure of how thinks work there.

  • Answer:

A community college is a 2-year college offering associates degrees. Many people start there and then transfer to a 4-year school, since pretty much all of the credits will transfer. Community colleges are cheaper than 4-year schools, most don't offer dorms, and the classes are typically a little easier (but not always). They also take almost everyone who applies. Some people go there to save money, some people go there to live close to home, some people go there to start off college slowly (not as a full-time student), some people go there because a 2-year degree is all they need for the job they want, and some people go there because they couldn't get into a 4-year school.
