What is college actually like?

I hate college, what can I do to like it better?

  • I am a sophomore and I really hate college. The excessive work, the snobby people and jocks at my school, being away 3 hours from home (the only place I feel welcome), everything. The only reason I go to college is because if I don't, I won't get a good job. If I could get a high paying job without college, or if someone on the street gave me a billion dollars, I would never have gone. And to those who say transfer, I don't think that will have a big impact. My problem isn't the specific college I go to, its college life in general that bothers me. I constantly have anxiety about college and its destroying my self esteem and mental health. No matter how many things I try (like joining clubs, and going to parties) I just can't stop hating it. I really try to love college, but it simply doesn't love me back. I guess I could try to tough it out for the next two years, but college is something I want to enjoy, not something I want to just get through.

Wow, I feel exactly the same way! I'm only a freshman though. I live at my state university, and I hate it. I feel great when I'm at home though. I'm planning to commute to a closer school next year, and hopefully that will make things a little easier. I partied my first semester, and made friends, but I still dread school. I absolutely hate lectures and all the work! I know it's to prepare us for the future, I just hate it! I've found that setting short-term deadlines makes the days go by faster. Like back in February I set the deadline to April, and guess what, I made it! Next is until the school year's over! Since you're a sophomore already, you should only roughly have about 2 years left, at least get your bachelors! But I would highly recommend going to a school you feel most comfortable at, somewhere you feel at ease & at home! I know I'm blabbing, but all in all, good luck to you! :)

Buy a package of condoms, some cheap liquor and go out and get yourself laid.

Either quit or finish it. Quit complaining about it. If you don't have the motivation to pull your stuff together for a few years, you won't make it anywhere in life. Do you think everyone enjoys writing 20 page research papers and being in class for 6 or 7 hours. I doubt it. Grow up.

Finish with something that will get you a good paying job after graduation.

College isn't for everyone, I "tried" twice and got bored with my major both times. I'm not rich by any means, but I have a decent life and I love my job, so I'm living proof you don't need it. Some people finish college and still can't find a job, if that happens, you wasted your money and will have a hard time paying it back. With that said, don't quit until you've really thought it all through. It's a tough world out there, and life will kick you in the *** if you're not prepared! Also, you can always either A) go back someday or B) take courses online, away from the "college life".
