Why is it so hard to get experience as a medical assistant?

Physician assistant schools want you to have health care experience. How can I get hands on experience?

  • I have looked on many volunteering sites and they offer opportunities, but not hands on experience. I have tried to look for internships, and I can't find any available. This question is specifically for students who are in a physician assistant program. How did you fulfill the requirement of 150+ hours of healthcare experience in order for admission into physician assistant school. I live in New York, so I would prefer New York PA students, if there are any. Thanks.

  • Answer:

Getting your EMT is the best and easiest way to get the experience. You can get some money and do it. Most EMT programs can be accomplished quickly and you can count your hours you have to volunteer for getting the EMT as part of the 150.

i think the 150 hour requirement might be specific to your the school you are looking at because i have 6 friends who went to PA school with 0 healthcare experience, straight out of college. (they went to Nova SOutheastern Ubiversity in ft lauderdale florida)

I worked as a Unit Assistant during nursing school. Hospitals always need them...they may be called Techs or Patient Care Assistance. It is entry level, but you will gain insight into health care.
