Can I get a job in the FBI with an online degree?

Getting a degree of accounting, wanting to be in the fbi?

  • I was curious if i got a bachelors degree in accounting and became a cop for a few years and found out the fbi wanted me, would i be in an office doing paperwork because i got a degree in accounting or would i be doing work in both the office and the field. I ask that because i don't want to get a degree in criminal justice because they will teach that stuff in the fbi academy. But if I get a bachelors degree in accounting im afraid ill be stuck in an office ALL the time. So my question is, if i get a degree in accounting, and i get a job being a special agent for the fbi, will I work in the field like I would if I had a jd in law? Also, does it matter if I get the degree online or in class, because I found a college online where I can get a bachelors of science in accounting in my own state without having to move to their college.

  • Answer:

Think in terms of the needs of the employer. There is a huge demand in law enforcement for 'forensic accounting. That is almost definitely office work. You definitely should consider police science and specialize in forensics, not just financial. Think in terms of CSI - that would suggest courses in upper-division biology and chemistry. Online programs, and I guarantee this is true for the FBI, are worthless. Most employers take applications that show online education and throw them directly into the trash.
