• I am thinking about applying for the Columbia University Summer Program for high school students, but I have one question: is it worth it? Since I am not from New York City, I would live in their dorm rooms. Through all the housing and lab fees along with the tuition, the total price would sum up to be a seemingly crazy $7,500. I would try to enter the "Explorations in Genetics and Molecular Biology" course and want to know how much this will really teach me as well as how much this will help my journey to a great college. Please help.

  I have looked at these programs and talked to my college councilor about them and he said that all these programs show colleges is that your daddy can pay half a year's tuition so you can go off and play college for a month over the summer. It looks a lot better to just stay home over the summer and get an internship and/or job and/or volunteer a lot.
