Answer:
CUNY is the City Colleges in the five boroughs and SUNY is the State Colleges outside the boroughs, Seriously if you are aiming for Yale, That's a long way from me, I would have to take Coach USA into the Port Authority Terminal then take the #7 train over to GCS and catch the New Haven Line to New Haven, Ct. and then walk the five blocks north and two blocks west to Yale's Admission Office. Stay in New York, go to Syracuse instead, thats closer.

CUNY stands for City University of New York. All the CUNY schools are in the 5 boroughs of New York City, and some of then are City College, Brooklyn College, Queens College, John Jay, etc. SUNY stands for State University of New York. SUNY schools are everywhere throughout the entire area of New York State. There are SUNY schools in NYC, Long Island and upstate. They are just about the same quality of education. SUNY is a little better compared to the CUNY system. However, its hard to judge because each college in the CUNY and SUNY system specializes in different things. The SUNY schools are harder to get into. They require a higher high school GPA and a little higher scores on the SAT. I am not exactly sure what the exact score requirements are, but different schools in the SUNY and CUNY system have different score standards. Also, all of the SUNY schools have dorms. Practically none of the CUNY schools have dorms but some of them have very little off campus living areas. SUNY schools have higher tuition rates compared to CUNY. CUNY schools, right now, charge about $2,200 a semester and I think SUNY is almost double that or something like that. Plus if you live on a dorm for a SUNY school, you gotta pay the dorm rent fees. Lastly, CUNY colleges are quite accepting of students. As long as you have a decent GPA, decent scores on the SAT and your overall high school performance is good, you will def. get into a CUNY school. I know people that had a GPA of about 80, got a total SAT score of about 1000-1150 (that was when the total SAT score was 1600) and were able to get into a CUNY school. I wish you the best with this process and I hope you get into the college you want to attend.

ok lols the dude above me just gave you links, any ways a cuny is a city university of new york so it means its like a zoned college lols what the advantage is that it would cost less then a state university, second you don't pay room and board since you live near it you use public transportation in some cases. a suny is a state university it is mostly upstate like in Albany and plattsburg etc. it means that it costs a little more you will use or if you live ner room and board same thing and you will need a higher sat and gpa rather a cuny is more easier to get into a suny is more harder but not as hard a a private or ivy league school, scholarships depened on your gpa and sat scores, and also if you have a fair good sat score lets say 1450 and a 90 avg you could get a scholarship fully for cuny and a fair scholarship for suny cuny is like community and sunny is state, cunny;s as i said before cost less and sunny is a bit more apart from room and board, but anyways either is fine, just aim a bit more for suny and put some few cunys that way if you fail into suny you always have a back up suny. for more info look up into the links the dude gave you if not google it, have fun good luck.
