Do I need to take the TOEFL?

Do I need to take the TOEFL?

  • I have a green card, but I've done my four years of high school in an American school in Colombia. My SAT critical reading is 760. Do my residency and SAT score matter, or does the fact that I went to high school outside of the US mean that I have to take the TOEFL?

  • Answer:

Many colleges require the TOEFL based on your nationality or your high school education. Check with the admissions department of the college(s) you would like to attend (online or by phone) and ask them specifically about your case to be sure.

You may still have to take the TOEFL. You should look on the web site of each college you are applying to. To make sure call or email admissions at each school and ask.

Probably not but you need to find out for each school. However, since you have most of your education in English, maybe you should just take the TOEFL because you'd ace it anyway. Then you're prepared if it is demanded.

The irony is that you may need to sit the TOEFL just to prove you didn't need it to begin with. Sad but true.
