What is Texas top 10% rule?

[Texas top 10% rule]UT AUSTIN&TEXAS A&M?

  • Hi:) i live in texas and i am currently in top 10% ( 8.49% ) based on my junior transcript. i really want to go to ut austin! but i heard that they changed the top 10% rule. so it is actually 8%!! when i heard that news i thought i can do better on my senior year and be top 8% because i really believe that i can be in top 8% when i apply. but is that true that ut austin just care about junior rank???? some of my friends said my school change our rank every 6 week but we get our official rank after we finish the semester... that makes me really confused.

  • Answer:

Right, your senior year transcript will not be included when you apply to UT Austin. That is, unless your school ends before December 1st (the deadline for Fall/Summer admission). So basically your application will just include your freshman-junior years. However, just because you're not in the top 8% doesn't mean you won't accepted. It just means that you won't be automatically accepted. Good luck.
