Should i work during first semster of college? is so, where?

hey, i am a college freshman preparing to move about 3 hrs away into my dorm in about 3 weeks. i had an absolutely terrible time finding a job this summer. i applied to a ton of places and even got a couple of interviews, but i was turned down each time because i was leaving for college in august :( i swear, no one hires students for summer work anymore apparently! anwho, as a result i am going to college with virtually no spending money saved up :/ granted my parents won't let me starve and i think they are planning on giving me a couple hundred dollars a month for supplies and spending money. but, i feel guilty doing this since they are paying for my tuition :( so, should i get a job the first semester? i just don't want my grades to suffer because i really really really really want to keep and maintain a 4.0! i am taking 15 hrs this semester and and on the cross country team. i have practice monday - friday at 6:30 am and again at 4 pm. and meets on saturday mornings until november. my class schedule is pretty flexibly and i'm usually done by 2pm. if i wasn't running, i feel that i could easily pick up an afternoon job, but i'm not too sure with cross country. what do you think? i want to earn money and work, but i don't want to be a ball of stress with terrible grades and a crappy cross country season :( if you were me, what would you do? and if i choose to work, where should i apply to? do you know of any flexible businesses/restaurants that would work with my schedule? sorry this is mildly complicated lol.

Answer:
I would work somewhere on campus. They are usually pretty flexible and understandin of student's schedules. Look online to campus HR and make some calls. Otherwise, when I was in college I worked at the library. You can go directly to the library's website and look for student employment opportunities. If you call and email the right people they should be very helpful in pointing you the right direction. I wouldn't work too far away with schoolwork and your cross country committments it would be hard to find a job that is flexible and considerate of your time. Plus, if your parents are giving you money ea. month you should already have enough spending money. If you get a meal plan you shouldn't need too much extra food. And I would only budget about $50-100/month for entertainment/recreation. Get board games/movies find creative ways to have fun without spending money. Those are my recommendations as someone who just graduated this month :-)
