What's The Best Way To Get Restaurant Management Experience?

  • Ok I am a recent graduate and in 2-3 years I want to own my own restaurant/bar. The problem is I have never worked in the restaurant/bar industry. So I was thinking after saving for 2-3 years I can get a job in the restaurant industry. But will being a server/waiter bus boy help me learn the restaurant business? I don't want to waste my time....I will be doing lots of research and reading beforehand anyways...I would just like to get some hands on experience before I buy my first restaurant. I assume I can't get a management position without experience

    The best way is to start out as a server and little by little be trained in other areas of the restaurant until you know how to do everything and then apply for a management position in the same company. As a manager you will have to know how to host, serve, cook, and bartend if your resto has a bar.
