I had a relative who was a waitress and it was good and bad. This profession has to deal with the public and also, a potential ill-tempered cook who gets mad at her if the customers want you to return their food because it is burned or overcooked. But if you are good, you can get great tips. Good means knowing the menu, especially recommending things to customers who ask. Be polite and try to bring people their drinks right away as well as an appetizer as soon as possible. If you are crazy busy, explain this to customers who might be understanding if you tell them. I actually think some of the happiness depends on where you work. I have a friend whose son works at the Cheesecake Factory and according to what he says, the employees there are like one happy family. They even have get-togethers off work!!! So do a little research to see where you want to work. And realize that the job is hectic and requires knowledge of the menu, good customer service skills, the ability to be organized and multi-task several tables at a time. And, you are definitely on your feet a lot. Good luck!!!!

I was a waitress for over 10 years and I think it's relatively easy. If you're good at being organized in your head. It's true that there will always be rude customers, even perverted ones, but you have to have a thick skin and smile even when you'd love to tell them off. It's like acting in a way. Always keep an eye on your tables, keep drinks refilled, offer extras that cost something (up-selling) like horseradish with the prime rib, know the specials, and clean things when you think you don't have anything to do. There is no sitting and saying you're bored unless you're on break. And leave all your daily problems at the door at the start of your shift, they'll still be there when you clock out. Good luck, smile and make those tips!
