What does a hostess do?

  • I am applying to jobs because i would like to be a hostess. I have applied to many non restuarant related jobs in retail and stuff and never heard back so im giving the restuarant business a shot. So far i have applied to TGI Friday's, Macaroni Grill, Chili's, Longhorn, Outback, Applebee's and Olive Garden. What does a hostess do? Do they literally only just seat people as they come in? I need to know the details. I pretty much knew what i was applying to before, but now i dont even know. All help/tips/whatever is appreciated. Also i do not want to clean tables because i find that to be pretty disgusting, so a hostess wouldnt need to do that would they, only the bus people?

    A hostess is a person who stands infront of a restaurant and greets customers. He/ she walks the custoumers to their table and gives them their menus.

Stand in front and greet people sometimes walk them to there table . Is like you would say Hello welcome to chillis how are u tonight or evening. simple and easy...

Besides greeting and seating, you may have to take cash, answer phones, and OMG you might have to bus a table. A blind monkey could do that job.
