How does a hostess get tips?

I just got the job for hostess at TGI Fridays and the manager said pay plus tips, but i dont understand how a hostess get tips. Do the sever and host share the tip that is given? Plus how much does a hostess get paid? (i live in maryland)

I hate the way Fridays is ran but they all pool the tips and share it. Its the perfect place for moron servers who wouldnt get tipped somewhere else.

well, this would be a sneaky way, but you could work something out with some of the waiters where you seat large or regularly high tipping customers in their sections in return for a tip... otherwise, ....unless you have a coat check I wouldn't count on any kind of tip. Somebody might tip you for helping them with making a reservation - if you are helpful about figuring out the perfect table for their evening, or letting them in on a nightly special that could influence when they have their event in the restaurant....
