Why do fast food restaurants trick me into thinking that they are family fancy restaurants?
-
Every time I drive into town looking for family fancy restaurants when I walk into them I find out that they are actually fast food restaurants! Why? Here is a list of the fast food restaurants that tricked me: 1. Olive Garden 2. Ruby Tuesday 3. IHOP 4. Applebee's 5. Red Lobster 6. Chilis I am not so much of a fast food person and this is like crazy! I am also an anti-sodium person. Could someone just explain to me why these restaurants make me feel like there fancy?

Answer:
First off, a "Fast Food Restaurant" is defined as preparing food relatively quickly and having little or no table service. It has nothing to do with the type of food sold. Second, none of these places have ever claimed to be (nor have been accused of being) anything other than "Casual Dinning Restaurants". So this is not a case case of the restaurants "tricking" you, it's a case of you making a mistake. Finally, are you aware of the fact that not a single medical study has ever shown that sodium, even high levels, causes health problems? Yes it will aggravate preexisting heart decease but it will not cause it. The "sh*t" in the food "that makes you fat" is the same "sh*t" you will find in the food at McDonald's, Applbee's or a high end "Fine Dining" restaurant as well as most of the food you purchase at the grocery store. It's not the salt or MSG (which by the way is also harmless) or the fat or cholesterol that makes a person fat. It the sugar and carbohydrates. If you're really concerned about health and nutrition I would suggest that you do a bit of reading. I'd recommend one or more of the following: Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes - Wheat Belly by William Davis - The Great Cholesterol Con by Dr Malcolm Kendrick - The Smarter Science of Slim by Jonathan Bailor - Good Calories Bad Calories by Taubes. You should also check out a documentary called Fat Head by Tom Naughton (you can find it on hulu.com, Netflix and iTunes). Any one of these will teach you so much more than the so called studies and claims funded by drug companies vegan groups and food activists (although most "Food Activists" are actually drug companies or vegan groups in disguise).

IHOP might be the only one that is considered fast food but even it has tables and wait persons. If they have too much sodium in their foods, choose things without sodium like fresh salads with oil and vinegar instead of salad dressings. Look at the ingredients on a can of tomato soup if you want to see lots of sodium. You need some to be healthy, especially some with iodine, because it prevents goiter. I consider them to be family fancy and not fast food. Fast food is McDonald's, etc. with a very limited menu, and you can get healthy low sodium foods there, too.

Just eat at real restaurants rather than chain restaurants and you'll be fine. I hear you. All the places you mentioned are disgusting and I have no idea why Americans think it's normal to eat at places like that.

oh my. so sorry for your sadness with these places. red lobster gave me and my disabled 70 year old wife diarrhea. we had this illegal alian for a waiter and he must not have washed his hands after pooping becuase my wife got deathly ill. we were so scared. the manager had bad teeth and rotten breath so i couldn't talk to her and complain. she was so fat and scary. oh no never again. fred yopelmier

Not a single restaurant listed is a QSR. Not a single restaurant listed is fancy. If you want a fancy chain train Cheesecake, Flemming's, Bone Fish, Season's 52, Capital Grille. I know it's hard to find nice chain restaurants when traveling.

Having sodium and calories in their food does not make them a "fast food" restaurant. Every food has calories in it, and lots have sodium. What exactly is your definition of "fast food?"

It's all a part of having something called 'broad-based appeal'. They can get a wider cross-section of the public as their clientele this way. By the way, I can understand salt-free food but calorie-free?

Is there any restaurant that isn't a fast food restaurant by your definition?

I just want to re-iterate the point that these aren't fast food joints.
