Hey, K, I've been doing it for 20 years, and am just now sick of it. 3 years ago I loved it. Go to a privately owned steakhouse, with a separate lunch & dinner menu, and you will do well. Chains attract a certain class of people. I AVERAGE $86 a day in an AVERAGE 4 hour shift. We have a lot of old people (I did four birthdays one day & they were all in their 80's). Just try & think of your grandma & be kind & patient. Servers can be sharks, and brutal--try to ignore & rise above. Also, keep in mind you won't make money right away, no one does, but I bought a home, raised a kid, paid cash for my (inexpensive) cars, and am putting myself through (community) college without loans.

I loved it for many reasons - I love chatting to cutomers - I love getting to know the regulars - I love how close the staff became, we were all quite good friends - It was a laugh - It was hard work sometimes but worth it at the end of the night - It became my second home - I worked with people that i couldnt live without now. Do it and see if you like it, whats the worse that can happen?

You meet a lot of people, if you are single its a great opportunity for you ... make sure you brush up your game. Also a lot of young and distressed women work those jobs, well I did work a white collar job and went out with lots of people that worked there but there are a lot of young college girls there.

well if you work in a small cafe like in my town its much different than say a Dennys its a tough job when you look at it, a LOT of walking, carrying heavy trays of food, remembering orders, dealing with people ,etc but its a decent job if you get used to it just remember to be kind and courteous so you get a nice tip ;)

If you get a position as a waiter in a good restaurant, I am sure it will be rewarding both for yourself and financially. It is a very enjoyable occupation IF you get into a good restaurant with good clientele. Some people are stuck in the 70s and do not tip more than mere change. You will meet people who are absolutely rude and no matter what you serve them, you can never please them but for the most part as long as you are polite and keep your customers drinks full, you will be well rewarded for that good service. It is an opportunity to meet a lot of new people, the BEST part of the whole job is taking that cash money home every night but paychecks are very very small.

The nicer you are the better the tips. You will meet a lot of nice people day in and day out. You will learn the business from top to bottom. Soon you may run the place.

I have done it in several places. #1 you want to go to an expensive place- even if they ONLY tip 15%, from a $250.00 meal that isn't bad. #2 there are certain rules- some ages, etc are good or bad tippers notoriously... that is just the way it is #3 just do your job- mots of the places that I have worked people try to get you so involved with a bunch of petty b/s... rise above. #4 smile through the whole shift... no one is eager to tip the surly waiter- they will generally fall over themselves to tip the sweet one #5 when waiting on a couple on a date, don't flirt with anyone- if it an older couple, they LOVE it if you flirt- makes them feel attractive, and even if the one you are flirting with isn't the one paying, they make sure you are taken care of Good Luck!!

I was a waitress for wedding banquets (great tips/bonuses with drunk customers), at 18 and waitressed until I was 20 bc I could not stand all the ignorant, rude people who took advantage of the rule *customers are always right*. I've been in many restaurants and I've never treated a waitress so poorly as I've seen done to me or my co-workers. It's not an easy job. I suppose if you can let water off a ducks back you can do it but for me, I don't take kindly to rude, or insolent people no matter the reason.
