Where to young people hang out in Washington DC?

  • I moved to maryland 3 months ago and i haven't really met anyone here, cuz i'm a student and i work too. but i'm tired of not having a social life and i want to change that i'm 20 years and and single, i want to go out have fun, party, ect i live in Rockville maryland; it's like 15 minutes away from DC does anyone knoow where people my age hang out????

    Fast Eddie's on K St is a strip club, so probably not the place for you. I don't know if the Polly Esther's in Rockville is still open, but back in the day they used to have 18 and over nights. There are also a lot of restaurant/bars in both Bethesda and along Rockville Pike where you can go around happy hour and find a pretty lively crowd as long as you're just there to eat. Honestly, your best chance is to hook up with people at your school to build up a social life. Meet people in classes and hang out, etc. You might also want to join the email list for the Going Out Guide at washingtonpost.com. A lot of their band/bar/dancing events are intended for the 21-and over crowd, but they also include a lot of cultural/embassy events, fairs and art shows that might be up your alley. If it were summer, you could probably just find a good time wandering around Dupont or U Street or Georgetown, but in the winter it's pretty difficult. The recommendation for Kramer's in Dupont is great, because they have a lot of events, a nice cafe/bar, and it's just a fun an interesting book store to wander around.

A great place to go for live music, great food, and a cool atmosphere is Kramer's Books right off the Dupont Circle metro. It's open all night and has the best portabella mushroom sandwiches! You are somewhat limited until you hit age 21. Once you do hit 21, try Adam's Morgan, Georgetown, The Black Cat, and/or Dr. Blues. There used to be a club called "Red" near Dupont Circle but that was many years ago and I don't know if it still exists. If you are subway savvy, you can also go into VA, such as Alexandria which is a nice place to walk around and potentially meet people. Another way to meet people is to go hang out at the museums, but my guess is you have already done that. You can also go into Chevy Chase and hit the big stores and restaurants(Cheesecake Factory, Clyde's, Tiffany, Jimmy Choo) Go to Kramer's. I guarantee you will like it!
